Performing as the musical guest at the fourth Greater Than Social Club is Greater Than Collective’s very own avant-pop cellist, Ian Cooke, who recently released Stages, a documentary about recording with 303 [children’s] Choir in Denver. Providing the comedic entertainment of the evening is the founder of the former all-female sketch group, Ladyface, and the comic voted Best Comic at 2011 Laugh Tracks Comedy Festival in Denver, Mara Wiles! 

Ian Cooke

Denver’s Ian Cooke released his second album, Fortitude, in January 2012, with the help of The Greater Than Collective. 

Cooke’s talent coupled with his diligent work ethic has earned him several accolades, including features in SPIN, a Daytrotter session, a #1 ranking in the 2009 Denver PostMusic Poll and “Best Singer Songwriter,” “Best album,” and “Best Avant-Garde” nods by Westword. Cooke was featured alongside Billy Bragg, M. Ward, Owen Pallet, and more on a Joanna Newsom tribute.

He has toured in the US and Australia playing with The Dresden Dolls, Crooked Fingers, Built to Spill, The Decemberists, The Flaming Lips (Monolith Festival), Blonde Redhead, Devotchka, Rasputina, Wovenhand, Pedro the Lion and many more.

Mara Wiles 

A classic middle child, Mara Wiles parlayed her need for attention into a comedy career and so far so good. She has proven a vital addition to Denver’s comedy scene with her quick-witted routines and devastatingly funny asides. Mara got her start with Denver improv group, Impulse Theater and from there became involved with Denver’s thriving stand-up scene. She is also a founding member/writer/performer of Ladyface, her former all-female sketch group. Mara was voted Best Comic at 2011 Laugh Tracks Comedy Festival in Denver.  Mara can be found performing all over at Denver’s best shows like the Grawlix, The Fine Gentleman’s Club and Arguments and Grievances: Debate Show. She has opened for the like of Chris Fairbanks, Dan St. Germaine and Adam Cayton-Holland. When Mara isn’t on stage she can be found trying to get into yogo, reading Real Simple magazine or  writing on her blog arealnailbiter.tumblr.com about motown music, Lady Gaga and her recent kidney transplant. 

Andrew Orvedahl 

Andrew Orvedahl has a casual, intelligent sense of humor that has entertained audiences in comedy clubs, colleges and theaters from coast to coast. Andrew has appeared on Last Comic Standing, and Nickelodeon, as well as being heard on SiriusXM radio. Recently Andrew sold a sitcom pilot to Amazon, and will be releasing his debut comedy album in early 2013.
